Marc Esper is NBC Universal’s Vice President of Search.  Esper, recruited a year and a half ago from AOL’s brand marketing team, is charged with making sure that NBC Universal’s 40 websites – including properties like Sci Fi Channel, NBC and Universal Pictures  -- show up properly in Google and Yahoo!, blogs, YouTube, discussion boards and the myriad other ways users discover content online.

“Each site has different marketing goals,” he said. “But each needs to tap into the huge online user base. We derive enormous synergies and cost-savings by having a group that focuses day in and day out on search.”  more

With media commentators in both the UK and US predicting that the Internet is rapidly replacing television as the preferred viewing medium for many, a Kelton Research survey commissioned by WeShow (www.weshow.co.uk) reveals that the online video viewing experience still leaves a lot to be desired for many users. 

The Kelton Research survey, conducted in June 2007 via an email invitation and online survey, found that while a staggering 126 million people in the US alone view online videos, 96% cannot find the videos they are looking for when initially conducting a search for specific content, and 61% were simply overwhelmed by the amount of online videos that exist. more

Grouper to serve as online talent agency

The online video site Grouper, which Sony Corp. bought last year for $65 million, is exiting the crowded and risky user-generated video business and focusing on finding professional talent for Sony's film and TV studios.
