Sony Vegas 7+DVD is a professional editing
platform capable of taking an editor from
capture to export. The Vegas7+DVD includes
Vegas 7, DVD Architect 4, and Dolby Digital
AC-3 encoding software. Vegas allows for
real-time acquisition and editing of DV, HDV,
SD/HD-SDI, and all XDCAM formats. Vegas 7
has the capability to fine-tune audio with
the precision of a digital audio

The Vegas 7 interface includes a fully
customizable workspace capable of creating a
variety of production environments. Save
your favorite layout for individual users
and tasks, even dock multiple windows across
more than one monitor. The Vegas 7 timeline
permits an unlimited number of video and
audio tracks in different sizes and
frame-rates, even nest Vegas projects within
the timeline. Use multiple aspect ratios
such as 4:3, 16:9 and edit in 23.976, 25,
29.97, 30fps or create 24p files for
conversion to film. Use application
scripting to automate repetitive tasks and
save customized keyboard commands. Create
customizable fades or reverse, hold and
repeat individual transitions. Render
projects in any resolution up to 2048 x
2048. Additionally, Vegas 7 software
provides timeline monitoring using i.LINK
connector/IEEE-1394 DV devices including
output to hardware cards in all supported
resolutions.
The improved format support added to Vegas
7+DVD provides full-frame rate playback of
native HDV. Capture from a wide variety of
HDV devices, with scene detection and
timecode support for the majority of HDV
formats. Improved memory usage for editing
HDV 1080i was added to help with the current
line of HDV camcorders. Export HDV projects
to such distribution formats as Windows
Media 9 HD, Real Media, QuickTime, AVC/AAC
and the Sony YUV codec for HD-SDI output.
In addition, Sony Vegas 7 adds full
resolution support of HD and SD XDCAM files,
in MXF format, with no additional
transcoding required. Vegas 7 has superior
SD down conversion and frame rate conversion
including 24p, and precision up conversion
for HD-SDI mastering. Vegas 7 allows for M2T
playback and 601/709 color space handling.
Import Flash (swf) directly into Vegas 7
software and create complex text animations
and other effects for use in any editing
tool that supports swf export. The
vector-based swf files can be scaled to any
project size without loss of resolution and
crossfade them without conversion or
rendering. Vegas 7 software takes advantage
of parallel processing architectures,
significantly reducing complex
project-render times on multiprocessor and
multicore systems.
Vegas 7 supports the AJA and Blackmagic
Design DeckLink line of capture/acceleration
hardware, providing batch capture, mixed
timecode handling of SD and HD 1080i 24p and
720p with timeline monitoring. Enhanced
monitoring tools allow full screen timeline
playback to secondary displays via component
or DVI connections. Support of scaling,
deinterlacing, and color profiles is all
capable within Sony Vegas 7.
Sony Vegas 7 permits immediately viewable
color changes on external monitors. Utilize
the 3-Wheel Primary and comprehensive
Secondary Color Correction filters to
fine-tune differences in video. Color match
footage between different camera setups,
lighting arrangements or make specific color
ranges stand out. Use presets to create a
film-look effect or make your own stylized
color configuration. All edits can instantly
be analyzed on a Vectorscope, Waveform,
Parade and Histogram. These tools can be
used to accurately calculate color, black
and whites or illegal chroma and luma
levels.
Working with effects in Sony Vegas 7 is both
fast and efficient. Select from over 190
customizable video effects and recall
frequently used effect chains with
configurable packages. Choose between 175
real-time 2D and 3D transitions ranging from
smooth dissolves to 3D fly in/outs. The
Vegas 7 track grouping model allows multiple
tracks to move and rotate in 3D space. 3D
motion occurs in real-time and is instantly
previewable on an external monitor. All
transitions can be keyframed to change over
the length of each fade and are
customizable. Pick from effects like Lens
Flares, Light Rays, Film Effects, Chroma
Key, Timecode Overlays, Color Gradients,
Media Generators, Credit Rolls, Text Effects
and still image effects.
Sony Vegas 7 can produce 3D motion effects
with accurate control over Z-depth, plane
intersection, compositing and more. Create
keyframeable Bezier masks for complicated
objects, shapes and motion changes over
time. Use the Bezier tool to make
depth-of-field effects, feather and blend
hard edges, zoom the workspace to the
sub-pixel level and construct mask overlays.
New effects to Sony Vegas 7 are the Red Eye
Reduction and Envelope Brush "Paint" tool.
The Red Eye Reduction tool quickly
eliminates red eye in still images without
leaving the Vegas environment. The new
envelope brush tool in Vegas 7 software
makes it possible to "paint" an envelope
curve over time by holding down the shift
key. This is a quick way to outline the
general shape of an envelope without placing
and modifying many distinct points. Use the
auto thinning feature to approximate the
drawn curve with as few points as possible.
Sony Vegas 7 software provides unlimited
audio tracks, 5.1 surround mixing, 24-bit
192 kHz audio support, punch-in recording
and time compress/expansion. Vegas 7
includes 30 real-time, customizable audio
effects including EQ, Reverb, Delay, and
natively supports VST audio plug-ins.
