All about
muvee analysis – the magic of muvee
There are
two components to the analysis process.
The Video Analyzer analyzes the
raw video and is able to detect the
start and end of each shot (used in
summarizing the video). It is also able
to detect the quality of images and then
cuts out low-quality material. The most
remarkable capability, however, is how
it detects “moments of interest” like
shots of people’s faces. The second
analyzer is for music. For each music
selection, it detects tempo, rhythm and
emotional energy of the music track and
then the results are used to drive the
rhythm and pace of the video editing.
The final
component is what they call the
Constructor – the algorithms that
actually create the production. It
combines the results from the two
analysis processes with the muvee
“Style” that selected to create the
final muvee. According to muvee,
“Constructor performs a range of highly
intelligent trade-offs between
conflicting artistic demands of video,
music & Style to create a finished
production with edits, rhythm, effects
that look like someone spent hours and
hours putting it together.”

Advanced
muvee Making
It only takes a
few minutes to create a good-looking
muvee from your video, stills and music.
But what if you want to make your video
even better? You have a few options.
You can import your final video into
another editing program and then
fine-tune it there. However, many
video editing applications use DV Type-2
video files as the preferred DV format,
while muvee autoProducer defaults to
capturing in DV Type-1 file format. So
in order to import a saved muvee into
other editing tools, you need to do the
following:
In the 'Save muvee' dialog box, under
the 'Options' tab, select 'DV'. Then, in
the 'Advanced' tab, change the default
DV Type to Type-2. Once save as DV Type
2, you should be able to work on it in
any other program.
The other option, and probably a better
choice, is to use muvee’s advanced
features that are found in the full
version of muveeAutoProducer6. There are
three sets of fine tune controls. One
set is located up on the Media Panel
while another set is located at the
bottom of the screen, next to the Make
muvee button. The third set,
Personalize, we have already discussed
and allows you to create titles, manage
intensity of effects and styles, music
durations, etc.
Lets start at the top. At the far left
of the Media Panel is the Magic Spot
icon. This allows you to add captions to
your still images as well as to set up
motion within the image. You can make
the program concentrate on a smaller
part of the image and then pan from one
area to another. Very cool. Below that
is an icon that lets you rotate your
mages.
By the way, if you click on one of the
still images in the Media Panel, you can
do some minor image corrections like
removing red eye or noise.
On the right side of the Media Panel is
the magicMoments tool that lets you go
through your raw video and then isolate
the sections that you don’t want in your
finished video. You also can select the
parts of the video that have to be in
the video. You select individual areas
or you can select a whole section for
inclusion or deletion.
Once you have made these changes –
create your muvee again to see how it
looks. Now if it looks good, for the
final finetune stage, you use the Tweak
muvee icon at the bottom of the muvee
GUI. The window opens up and you can see
your entire muvee, with each edited clip
indicated. You can move them around and
substitute them for a different image.
The Tweak muvee window also enables you
to add narration or voice over to your
entire muvee.

Then after you have made your tweaks,
hit Play or preview muvee. Do not hit
the Make Muvee button or all of your
tweak changes will get lost. You do get
a warning but it is too easy to ignore.
I recommend that save alternate project
versions of your muvee as you create and
change it – that way you can always go
back to a different version as you do
your edits and fine tunes. Don’t sve the
actual muvee, just the project
description.
How do
you get muvee?
You can
download the latest version of muvee
autoProducer6 from the muvee website.
You can buy the full product for $130 or
you can try out the free trial version
that is good for 3 weeks before you need
to buy the real product.
This is a
great offer as it lets you explore all
the cool features the program offers.
There’s also a lighter version –
muveeNow, targeted for kids and for
those who don’t need lots of
configuration power. This lite version
is also available for trial for 21 days
and costs only $50. The big difference
is that muveeNow comes with 8 standard
styles – not “super” styles. This means
that there fewer less personalization
capabilities provided for the final
muvees.
You might
want to start with muveeNow first and
then, if you like it, and need the
additional power, you can always upgrade
to the latest version of autoProducer.
There is
also a version available for cell phones
but right now, it only works on a very
small selection of brands and models for
LG and Nokia phones. It comes with a
small selection of built-in styles, and
enables you to make muvees from captured
videos and still images.
