Peachpit Releases The Lean Forward Moment: Create Compelling Stories for Film, TV, and the Web BERKELEY, CALIF. (Feb. 12, 2009) — In film and other types of moving media, the “Lean Forward Moment” is that key moment in the story where audiences are affected most. Film editing expert Norman Hollyn shows readers the secrets behind these in The Lean Forward Moment: Create Compelling Stories for Film, TV, and the Web, published by Peachpit. Describing in detail the conceptual and practical tools in the filmmaker’s arsenal, Hollyn share the secrets of effective storytelling techniques used in script writing, directing, set design, sound and picture editing, music, visual effects, and producing. Pointing to examples from top films including The Godfather and The Matrix, and such directors as Francis Ford Coppola, Orson Welles, and Jean-Luc Godard, the author guides readers through all the steps needed to become a better and more persuasive filmmaker. Ian Calderon, Director of Digital Initiatives, Sundance Institute, said, “Norman Hollyn’s The Lean Forward Moment speaks volumes about the art and craft of filmmaking. His elegant explanations of editorial choices and creative decision tell the full story. It is a serious work and it will be a resource for every emerging filmmaker.” Norman Hollyn will demonstrate how readers can create their own Lean Forward Moments at a special event to be held at the Apple Store San Francisco on April 4, 2009, 1:00-2:00 p.m. Readers can also hear more from the author in a new Peachpit.com podcast <http://www.peachpit.com/podcasts/episode.aspx?e=11ae1733-d8ab-4e0e-b02a-8ac2ebf2feee> with publisher Nancy Aldrich-Ruenzel.
