SAN FRANCISCO FILM SOCIETY AND YAHOO! VIDEO KICK OFF THE SFIFF50 GREENWORLD CONTEST AND LAUNCH VIDEO CONTENT PARTNERSHIP

 

$1,000 Cash Prize and Screening at 50th San Francisco International Film Festival’s GreenWorld Celebration for Winning Film Focused on “What It Means to Be Green”

 

San Francisco, CA and Sunnyvale, CA – March 8, 2007--The San Francisco Film Society (SFFS), and Yahoo! Video, (http://video.yahoo.com) today announced the 50th San Francisco International Film Festival (SFIFF50) GreenWorld Contest powered by Jumpcut, a Yahoo! company.  Additionally, the two will launch a branded video channel featuring content from the San Francisco Film Society

 

The SFIFF50 GreenWorld Contest, presented by SFFS and Jumpcut, is an online competition for short films focused on the necessary conversations, changes, risks, leadership, vision and imagination needed to make the world truly sustainable.

 

In works of two minutes or less filmmakers will tackle the question, “What does green mean to you?” Contest entrants can edit and submit films on Jumpcut, http://www.jumpcut.com/groups/greenworld, between March 8 – April 22.  During that time, viewers will be invited to “give love" to entries they find particularly enjoyable, insightful, memorable or otherwise praiseworthy. Up to ten entries selected by a qualified panel of judges will be included in the final voting stage from April 26–May 6 where viewers can cast one vote for the Audience Favorite. The Grand Prize Winner will be selected from among the Finalists by a panel of noted industry professionals.

 

The Grand Prize Winner will be announced and presented with a $1,000 cash prize and the Audience Favorite will be announced at the SFIFF50 Golden Gate Awards ceremony on Thursday, May 9. The two winning films and a selection of runner-up shorts will be screened at the Festival’s GreenWorld Celebration which follows the Golden Gate Awards ceremony on May 9. The SFFS channel on Yahoo! Video will be available at http://video.yahoo.com starting the week of March 19, 2007. The channel will feature content and creative programming from the landmark 50th San Francisco International Film Festival (April 26 – May 10, 2007). In addition, the channel will continue throughout the year with programming drawn from the Film Society’s full slate of events content including interviews with directors of the SFIFF films, clips from the SF360 television show movie scene and the 2nd San Francisco International Animation Festival in October 2007,
