Aviation Videos- Airplanes, Jets and So Much More

These clips were compiled by Steve Bass at PC World - along with his comments -

Here's my absolute favorite; I've watched this 9-minute video a dozen times [11MB file]: http://www.bassfiles.net/Ride_Short.wmv

I love the smile on the brave guy's face as he takes a backseat ride in a jet. The pilot hands over the controls and talks him through a roll, first to the left, then to the right. Very cool.

Now watch Bob Hoover as he turns the engines off and flies his plane like a glider [9MB]:

Here's some Japanese aerobatics [20MB]: http://www.bassfiles.net/Japanese-Aerobatics.wmv

And now for some really crazy stuff, like the pilot doing an intentional stall, which I learned is a standard training procedure  [22MB]: http://www.bassfiles.net/stall.wmv

Here's someone doing a 360 in a 747: http://www.bassfiles.net/747roll.MPG

Here's an idiot trying to fly off the Eiffel Tower (a Pathe movie from the twenties or so): http://www.bassfiles.net/NOTFLY.WMV

How about flying under a bridge upside down? http://www.bassfiles.net/BIG.MPE

Here's a guy who survived being sucked into a jet engine (yes, he did): http://www.bassfiles.net/SUCKED.AVI

Check out the experimental plane flown entirely by computer (probably running on OS/2, from the looks of it): http://www.bassfiles.net/AIRBUS.MPG

An F-22 has a nasty crash: http://www.bassfiles.net/F-22Crash.mpg
So does a Mig (but don't worry, both pilots survived):

Radar track of FedEx planes flying to their Memphis hub. There's nasty weather approaching the airport (watch the colors) and the black arrows are the planes. Pay attention as the airplanes are diverted when the heaviest cell of the storm hits the airport. If you watch carefully, you'll see some of the planes almost hovering while waiting for the storm to pass. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRcDvJE5HZ8

You can find what seems like zillions of aviation-related videos on this well-hidden page: http://www.alexisparkinn.com/aviation_videos.htm#AIRLINERS

And if you've ever wondered about air traffic control, watch one of these videos and you might wonder why there aren't more collisions: http://users.design.ucla.edu/~akoblin/work/faa/index.html

Flying Through a Storm: A combat mission flies through a thunderstorm while over Iraq. Things start getting intense at about 4:30 minutes in this 9-minute video, shot by one of the crew members: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sA-Hk_jnPg
