Movies and videos for the
broadband challenged
Watch Streaming Video over a dial up
connection? Video over a cell phone?
Not
everyone gets to enjoy the advantages of the DSL or cable modem, not
everyone gets a 1 Mbps plus Internet connection.
Never
fear, we have some videos to watch and some web sites for you to
visit....
Watch - A Love Story -
A couple meet and court. But
something comes in the way of a closer encounter. This is
part of the BBC's one minute theatre - low resolution, short
videos that stream at 100k or less so you can watch them on
your phone or on a dial up connection.
How long is your attention
span? Do you believe in the
shorter the better? If so,
you'll love this short
short. Just ten seconds in
length, this
Moonwalk video was shot
on one of the most expensive
sets in history. Also,
check out
Wait
- 15 seconds in
length. And if you can bear
it, you got to see
NightWalk. Great
concept, wonderful black &
white cinematography. All at
the
Last Independent
web
site.
Want to make movies but don't have a
camcorder? Want to create your own little animated flicks but don't know
how to draw? No big bandwidth Internet connection? Check out
16color.com, a cool little site that enables you to create your own
animated movies and share them online. It's simple and fun. Great for
kids. It's amazing what you can create with just 16 basic colors.
You
may not be able to get a high speed connection in your neighborhood, or
maybe you have decided that it is just not worth it, or maybe, you are
accessing this web site while on the road and all you have is a dial-up
connection.

Check out the Top Six winning Micro-muvee's
on the muvee site. These were all completed using muvee's automatic
video editing package - muvee
AutoProducer
Here
are the top three winners and the top 20 finalists of the 2003 Ten
Second Film Festival. Out of the some thousand entrants, these are
the best. Check them out - how long can ten seconds be? Our favorite of
the winners is "The 7th Distraction" by Daniel
Watts. You may need to watch it a couple of times to get it.
Have you ever visited the StupidVideos.com
web site? They have some great funny (and stupid videos) there. On the
top rated section, make sure you check out Mouse & Cheese, a cool
animation of a mouse singing to piece of cheese on a mouse trap. Also
check out How to Apologize - a cute video (for guys) about how to make-up
with your significant other. Also checkout the Garbage Truck where someone plays a funny trick on
the garbage truck guy. You can
pick from Top Rated, New, Most Watched, etc. If you have a slow net
connection, you can download these videos in QT format at dial-up speed.
Do cartoon characters have rights? Some
major entertainment conglomerates have been known to reject cartoon
characters when they don't perfectly fit the mold. Check out Rejects,
a short Shockwave animation hosted at Hoving.com. Not exactly Disney
material....Also visit the Hoving.com home page to watch some more of
their slightly off-center funny animations. Good stuff.

What do you get when you mix sex and
and Apples? Religion or Computers? I don't know but click here
to visit SleeplessKnights.com,
the home of the original Quicktime
commercials for the amazing iBrator. Each of the ads is an accurate
parodies of Apple Computer's amazing and clever iMac commercials. You
may have seen their infamous Colors
commercial before. We were really impressed by i4,
their take on what maybe the most awesome commercial of all time. If you
love Apples and nookie, you got to see these...
Exploding Whale video? There's been a
story floating around the net for years about a beached whale that was
blown up (exploded, not inflated) for lack of a better way to be rid of
it. Many people thought it was an urban legend. You
can see the video here...
Here
are some great short cartoons for your viewing pleasure. Checkout the Fox
Moon Hoax that shows us what really happened behind the scenes
during the
moon landing many years ago. If you are a fan of Microsoft and Bill
Gates, you are sure to appreciate "The Best is Yet to Come - Microsoft
Commercial. Of course, for you tech heads, you probably really want
to know all about the Segway,
formerly known as Ginger. All these, and more, are at Idleworm..

circulating around the net. However, there are a few gems that we
haven't seen before like
Cellphone Confusion, Don't Bother Me and the Beautiful
Babe on the highway (Lotto) commercial. I recommend downloading
these to view them. Most are around 1 MB or so in size. There are also a
couple of classic Taliban clips as well including the infamous Taliban
Olympics clip.
Do
you love great commercials? How about great UK commercials. They often
are a bit wilder and crazy than United States Commercials. The AbsolutelyAndy
web site has an incredible array of downloadable commercials, with
interesting notes about their history and music and what makes them so
unique. He is using MPEG4 based compression which enables these
commercials to be downloaded and played back in high quality even over a
low bandwidth connection

animation by Jack Perkins. Decomposition

bit scary at times. A magical conductor conjures monsters to
perform a violent symphony to a spell-bound crowd of upper class elite.
In the wrong place at the wrong time, a terrified boy seeks an escape.
Kids
eating a bit too much sugar? Too much soda, too much candy...too much
too much? Check out Living

created by Ron Noble, who wrote the story in one night, storyboarded and
scripted in less than a week, and then spent the next 22 months working
80 hours a week to finish.

and significant others? Well then, check out www.superlaugh.com.
Some of these flash flicks are cute, some are silly, and some are funny.
My favorite is this one submitted by Sheri in Las Vegas - Do you
like Chinese food? Are you a feline lover? If so, you had better not
watch this video Chowmein.
You will need Flash on your computer to see these.

pictures and other humorous stuff.

play over and over.
The Ingredient
X web site features a wild assortment of odd and funny QuickTime
movies thank can be downloaded to your computer and watched back at your
leisure. Some are 1 MB or more but are definitely worth the download
time. Some of our favorites include The Houseguest", a story about
a best friend that should have never come to
visit...or stay?. From the home page, go to Independent and then to
Live. While you are there, make sure to check out some of the other
extraordinarily cool videos and animations like "Dumb Things I
Did" and "The Hurt Inner Child Show" in the MISC section. In
the ad section, the "Mr. Misdemeanor" commercial is great
and not to be missed.
IceBox.com
feature high quality Flash animated cartoons. Many of the cartoons are
free while others costs a big 25 cents per play. One of
our favorites is the Hard Drinking
Lincoln series from IceBox.com. These are written and created by Mike
Reiss. Not only can you see the infamous
first episode
where old Abe gets plastered and commits some politically incorrect
actions, you can also
watch the other 13 episodes as well. Not for the squeamish
or historians; some mature content, bodily noises, bad language and
comic allusions. This is one of the Pay for Play sites that is
definitely worth supporting.
MondoMedia site features a diverse cornucopia
of "MiniByte" productions as well as some of their ongoing
Internet productions.
One
of our favorites is the The
"Al Queda - Recruiting Video" animation.
Do
you like goofy little animations and videos that you can copy and email
to your friends, relatives and co-workers. If so, you will love the MadBlast
site. Not only does it feature goofy little
cartoons like "Jungle Boogie -Get Down" and the "Big O
Day", it also has funny images, saying and other strange stuff to
share. Any best of all, you don't need broadband, just
email!.

back at your leisure. Check out the various Star War parodies and fan
films including Quentin Tarantino's Star Wars ,
"Kung Fu Kenobi's Big Adventure" and "Getting
Medieval".. Evan has been making and hosting short films on
this site since 1995.
Are you just starting out creating
and posting your own Internet videos and movies? Are you a bit
intimidated by the overall high quality of most streaming media sites
and the productions they are hosting? Well, then check out the Funny
Movies web site and see what you can do with just a little
imagination and basic video production and editing gear. None of
these very short movies will ever win an Oscar, Emmy, or any award at
all, but they are fun and serve to show that even beginners can get a
foothold in the world of Internet video.
