Reviewed by Mark Shapiro "Professional Video Production" by Richard Harrington and Mark Weiser is an excellent book for those who know little or nothing about video production and want to jump headfirst in to the world of making professional videos for internet video distribution. "Professional Video Production" is not targeted to the content producers who just post short clips of video to free sites such as YouTube. Instead, the information in the book is aimed at those who want to make quality web video, with good lighting, excellent sound and sharp editing. The book covers all the basics - re types of camcorders and cameras you can use, lighting basics and equipment options, how to get pro quality sound, overview of editing and editing software solutions, compression for the web, as well as many other of the basics that a web video producers ought to know if they want to be making money making video for online business. Happily, the book also gets into the marketing aspect of web video, discussing how to promote and distribute your video. If no one watches your videos then what is the point of creating them in the first place. The authors also delve into how to make money with the video, the various types of deals and sponsor arrangements that are out there. Should you get this book? If you plan on avoiding the UGC video craze and are serious about making online video, then this is a great resource book, especially if you have little or no background in video production. If you do know your way around the camera but are not up to speed on web compression, delivery and hosting, you can learn a good deal form this book. However, as the world of online video evolves every day, and new technologies explode onto it, a book that is cutting edge in 2010 is slightly out of date in 2011. Digital SLRs, which are very popular due to their large sensor size, are barely touched upon in this book. 3D video delivered online, currently is a very hot feature, is not mentioned in this tome.
