Samsung's new Blu-ray Disc player, the BD-P1000, was highlighted as "Gadget of the Week" in TIME Magazine. It offers viewers the chance to watch their favorite movies in high definition at a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080. Calling the picture "smooth and flawless" the reviews says that when combined with a Samsung DLP TV it makes for an unforgettable viewing experience. The BD-P1000 also serves as the perfect compliment for the soon to launch PlayStation 3 in November. Additionally, both Paramount and Warner will be issuing HD versions of their movies that are specifically formatted to play on Blu-ray Disc players.

If you are interested in what is going on in the world and how you can use video and film to help make a difference, you ought to check out the Schnews site, a radical activist newsletter from Brighton, UK. The site has some very interesting videos as well as links to a variety of activist organizations and causes.
 
The Media That Matters Film Festival is the premiere showcase for short films on the most important topics of the day. Local and global, online and in communities around the world, Media That Matters engages diverse audiences and inspires them to take action.

From gay rights to global warming, the jury-selected collection represents the work of a diverse group of independent filmmakers, many of whom are under 21. The films are equally diverse in style and content, with documentaries, music videos, animations, experimental work and everything else in between. What all the films have in common is that they spark debate and action in 8 minutes or less.

Host Jerome X interviews the late great Sigmund Freud, reincarnated in his doll form complete with cigar and a willingness to blame it all on MOM. "Uh Oh Betty? is a 8 minute documentary parody that shows the lighter side of a rather bleak topic. Shot in black and white it is a hilarious, tongue in cheek, instructional film on how to properly dispose of your recently murdered boyfriend.
